This report provides information about the number and percent of students receiving one semester of health education as defined in Local Law 14 as reported through the 2015-2016 STARS database. It is important to note that schools self-report their scheduling information in STARS.

1. Health Education Standards

This tab provides information on the New York State Health Education Requirements and Standards. These requirements can be found in NYS Education Commissioner’s Regulation Subchapter G Part 135.

2. HS - School

This tab includes school level data on the number of students that received a semester (one credit) of health instruction, as well as the number of June and August graduates meeting the HS health requirements for the 2015-2016 school year. Note that students are not required to receive health instruction at any particular grade level in high school, only prior to graduating. Additionally, values less than 100% do not necessarily imply that students graduated without meeting credit requirements. In very rare cases, these values may indicate missing or incomplete historical transcript data.

3. HS - District

This tab includes district level data on the number of students that received a semester (one credit) of health instruction, as well as the number of June and August graduates meeting the HS health requirements for the 2015-2016 school year. Note that this regulation does not require students to receive health instruction at any particular grade level in middle school, only prior to completing 8th grade. However, a student may advance to the next grade without completing the course.

6. MS - District

This tab includes district level data on the number of 6-8 graders that received a semester (one half-unit) of health instruction, as well as the number of 8th graders meeting the middle school health requirements for the 2015-2016 school year. Note that this regulation does not require students to receive health instruction at any particular grade level in middle school, only prior to completing 8th grade. Attendance data include 3K-12 students in Districts 1-32 and 75 (Special Education). Students in District 79 (Alternative Programs), charter schools, homeschooling, and home and hospital instruction are excluded. Infants in D79 (LYFE program) and students with a grade level "AD" (adult) are also excluded. Pre-K data do not include NYC Early Education Centers; therefore, Pre-K data are limited to those who attend K-12 schools that offer Pre-K and District Pre-K Centers.
Overall Attendance Rate is defined as the percent of days where students have present attendance status, out of total days with reported attendance data, across 20 days of attendance data October 1-29. Remote Instruction Attendance Rate is defined as the percent of days where students have present remote attendance status out of total days with a remote attendance record reported, across 20 days of attendance data. Every year, all parents, all teachers, and students in grades 6 - 12 take the NYC School Survey. The survey ranks among the largest surveys of any kind ever conducted nationally.
Survey results provide insight into a school's learning environment and contribute a measure of diversification that goes beyond test scores on the Progress Report. NYC School Survey results contribute 10% - 15% of a school's Progress Report grade (the exact contribution to the Progress Report is dependant on school type). Survey questions assess the community's opinions on academic expectations, communication, engagement, and safety and respect. School leaders can use survey results to better understand their own school's strengths and target areas for improvement.

The NYC School Survey helps school leaders understand what key members of the school community say about the learning environment at each school. The information captured by the survey is designed to support a dialogue among all members of the school community about how to make the school a better place to learn.

Enrollment counts are based on the October 31st Audited Register for each school year.
* Please note that October 31st enrollment is not audited for charter schools or Pre-K Early Education Centers (NYCEECs). Charter schools are required to submit enrollment as of BEDS Day, the first Wednesday in October, to the New York State Department of Education.

In response to Local Law No. 1486-A. Reports on school applications, offers of admission, enrollment, and school seats available. All available seats, applicants, and offers of admissions are for Main Round (for pre-K, Kindergarten, Middle School and High School) admissions only. Data is only included for schools that participate in centralized admissions processes.

2017 - 2018 NYC School Survey Parent Data

Student discipline annual report for students in temporary housing aggregated by removals, principal and/or superintendent intervention and expulsions.

Progress Reports grade each school with an A, B, C, D, or F.  These reports focus on a school's learning environment, student performance, and student progress.  They were designed to help parents, teachers, principals, and others understand how well schools are doing—and compare them to other, similar schools.

This file shows average class sizes and the size of the smallest and largest class for each school, by grade and program type (General Education, Self-Contained Special Education, Collaborative Team Teaching (CTT)) for grades K-9 (where grade 9 is not reported by subject area), and for grades 9-12, aggregated by program type (General Education, CTT, and Self-Contained Special Education) and core course (e.g. English 9, Math A, US History, etc.).

School leaders use feedback from the survey to reflect and make improvements to schools and programs. Also, results from the survey used to help measure school quality. Each year, all parents, teachers, and students in grades 6-12 take the NYC School Survey. The survey is aligned to the DOE's Framework for Great Schools. It is designed to collect important information about each school's ability to support student success.

This dataset contains a list of school locations across New York City offering COVID-19 testing locations. The list is sorted by district, school borough and three digit school number.
