Every year, all parents, all teachers, and students in grades 6 - 12 take the NYC School Survey. The survey ranks among the largest surveys of any kind ever conducted nationally.

Survey results provide insight into a school's learning environment and contribute a measure of diversification that goes beyond test scores on the Progress Report. NYC School Survey results contribute 10% - 15% of a school's Progress Report grade (the exact contribution to the Progress Report is dependant on school type). Survey questions assess the community's opinions on academic expectations, communication, engagement, and safety and respect. School leaders can use survey results to better understand their own school's strengths and target areas for improvement

Local Law 42, enacted in 2011, requires the New York City Department of Education (DOE) to report to the New York City Council by June 30, 2013 the num ber of students in grades 9 through 12 who were discharged, transferred, or graduated during the 2011-12 school year. This document summarizes and explains reported data for students by discharge type in grades 9 - 12. This law requires the reporting of discharges and
graduations that occur during one school year.

In June 2012, 7 New York City public schools closed for poor performance. This report provides data regarding students enrolled in these schools during the 2011-2012 school year, according to the guidelines set by Local Law 2011/043

At the citywide, borough and district levels, the DOE is required to report discharge, transfer and graduation counts by grade level (middle school only), cohort (high school only) and disability status. At the school level, the DOE is required to report discharge and transfer counts by grade level (middle school only), cohort (high school only), disability status broken down by, age as of 12/31 of the previous calendar year age, race/ethnicity, and gender. Citywide, Borough, and District results represent the last discharge or transfer for each student. School level results represent all events for all students. District 79 programs are included in the Citywide, Borough and District results, but not shown in the school-level spreadsheets.

2017 - 2018 Biannual Report January Pursuant to Local Law 93 of 2015, the Department of Education is required to provide reports on student discipline data (suspension data) to the City Council twice a year (October 31 and March 31). The October reporting requires citywide suspension data by month for the second half of the academic year, January through June. Per the legislation and in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), any value from zero (0) to five (5) has been redacted.

In August 2005, New York State Legislature passed "Billy's Law" which is requiring biannual reports of State and local monitoring of out-of-state residential facilities that house New York State children who are placed in such facilities for specialized services including specialized educational services. Reports are to be produced on first day of September and February, containing name and location of each facility, number of children placed, general population served by each facility, the number of individuals served, the age, race, gender and nature of any disabilities and the types of services provided by each out of state facility.

Local Law 14 (2016) requires that the NYCDOE provide citywide Health Education data, disaggregated by community school district, city council district, and each individual school. Data reported in this report is from the 2017-18 school year.
This report provides information about the number and percent of students scheduled for at least one semester of health education as defined in Local Law 14 as reported through the STARS database. It is important to note that schools self-report their scheduling information in STARS.

Data based on DBN, School Name and School Type for High School Transfers.

Local Law 15 enacted in 2016 requires the Department of Education of the New York City School District to submit to the Council information regarding Health Education instructor data. This report inlcudes (i) the total number of health instructors
employed by the department, disaggregated by full-time and part-time instructors; (ii) the total number of instructors assigned to teach at least one health education class.
All information is aggregated citywide, as well as disaggregated by community school district and, when available, by school.
YABC, D75 home and hospital, D79 and charter schools are excluded from this report.

Counts of the total number of unique instructors attending professional development is from 2016 to 2018 (2 years). In order to calculate the percentage of instructors attending multiple sessions of professional development, the NYCDOE used the 2017-18 number of instructors as the denominator to reflect that instructors could have attended professional development in years prior.
