data: Boundaries of Neighborhood Tabulation Areas as created by the NYC Department of City Planning using whole census tracts from the 2010 Census as building blocks. These aggregations of census tracts are subsets of New York City's 55 Public Use Microdata Areas (PUMAs).
For each Community District, its Recycling Diversion rate (percentage of total municipal solid waste collected by the Department of Sanitation that is disposed of by recycling) and Capture Rate (percentage of total Paper or Metal/Glass/Plastic in the waste stream that is disposed of by recycling). Capture rate is the amount of materials set out for residential recycling collection as a percentage of designated recyclable materials in both recycling and refuse streams. This ratio measures how much of the targeted materials are actually being recycled, which is a measure of how successfully such materials are recycled. Please note that since 2013, DSNY no longer uses capture rate information. GIS data: Community Districts (Water areas included)
Community Districts are mandated by the city charter to review and monitor quality of life issues for New York City (NYC) neighborhoods. NYC is currently comprised of 59 community districts. The first byte is a borough code and the second and third bytes are the community district number. There are also 12 Joint Interest Areas (JIAs). The JIAs are major parks and airports and are not contained within any community district. This dataset is being provided by the Department of City Planning (DCP) for informational purposes only.
