Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) believes that limited English proficiency (LEP) should not be a hindrance to accessing the services and information the Agency provides. Without language access services consumers and workers and business with limited English proficiency could face substantial hurdles to knowing their consumer and worker rights; business owners could struggle to navigate the rules and regulations that govern commerce and the workplace in New York City, and potentially struggle to complete the license application process.

DCWP provides telephonic translation services to anyone requesting such assistance. Each month DCWP receives an invoice that records each time a translation request was made and general information in relation to each transaction, including the language requested and the DCWP division which made the request. This dataset is compiles these translation service invoices since January 2016, the earliest date this information is available.

New York City Administrative Code Section 20-409 requires the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) to post to its website the suspension, revocation, denial of renewal of license, and the issuance of penalties against licensed process servers, and the reason.

The New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection's Office of Financial Empowerment (OFE) published a research study in 2015, evaluating the use of mobile financial services to establish patterns of use among low and middle income New Yorkers. The purpose of this exploration was to analyze the needs, barriers, and opportunities to increase financial inclusion through mobile financial services use.

This dataset was compiled from a financial security study conducted in 2013 by Department of Consumer and Worker Protection's Office of Financial Empowerment, in partnership with The Urban Institute. The dataset is published on the DCWP website and used for a web-based data visualization tool. The Department of Consumer and Worker Protection's Office of Labor Policy & Standards (OLPS) protects workers and enforces local labor laws that help ensure a fair workplace for all persons working in the City, and to ensure they can realize their rights.

This dataset provides a list of all worker complaints under the Fair Workwek and Paid Safe and Sick Leave laws that, after preliminary investigation, were taken up by OLPS attorneys as an enforcement matter.

The dataset provides the list of inquiries received by DCWP’s Office of Labor Policy & Standards (OLPS).

OLPS is NYC’s central resource for workers. OLPS is charged to protect and promote labor standards and policies that create fair workplaces to ensure all workers can realize their rights, regardless of immigration status. OLPS takes complaints about workplace laws and investigates claims under those laws, such as the Paid Safe and Sick Leave Law. For other issues, OLPS connects workers to relevant government agencies, legal service providers, and resources to help them access and protect their rights and get critical services.

This dataset features businesses and individuals that were issued a DCWP license and the status of those licenses as of October 2013. A license is required to legally operate in New York City.
